Lavrov Strengthens Russia, Africa Ties

(MENAFN) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov conducted a series of bilateral discussions on the sidelines of the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Cairo on Friday.

During talks with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Lavrov expressed that he was “very satisfied” with the negotiations and reaffirmed Moscow’s interest in sustaining regular dialogue. The two sides addressed issues in Gaza, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and developments in Sudan. Lavrov also announced plans to expand direct air connections with Egypt, which he said “will allow for an increase in tourist flow.”

In a separate meeting with Tanzanian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, both parties emphasized enhancing trade and economic cooperation. They also agreed to deepen collaboration at the UN and other international institutions. Lavrov praised the outcome of Tanzania’s general elections held at the end of October, while Kombo voiced hopes for stronger ties with Russia.

Lavrov further engaged with the foreign ministers of Namibia, Burundi, Botswana, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, and Gambia.

He reiterated Russia’s commitment to broadening traditionally friendly relations, intensifying political dialogue, and strengthening cooperation in areas such as commerce, humanitarian initiatives, education, and healthcare. These nations likewise confirmed their readiness to expand coordination with Moscow at the UN and other global platforms.
